Bharat Forge Limited will establish India’s first private-sector Marine Gas Turbine (MGT) repair, overhaul and indigenous development complex in Visakhapatnam, marking a major milestone in strengthening the country’s naval propulsion ecosystem.
The company, through its aerospace division, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to set up the facility.
The complex will be strategically co-located with Naval Dockyard, INS Eksila and the Eastern Naval Command, enabling critical marine propulsion sustainment capabilities to be developed within India’s private sector for the first time.
In its initial phase, the facility will include a comprehensive marine gas turbine repair and overhaul centre featuring hot section restoration for blades, vanes and combustion liners, dedicated component manufacturing units, and a non-destructive evaluation (NDE) laboratory. The project will also enable a 72-hour turnaround support capability for the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam.
